Busted

I was wrapping Christmas presents a couple of nights ago. As I started to wrap some books I bought for Jacki, I couldn't help but glance through one of them (a memoir-one of my favorite genres). Before I realized it, I was thoroughly engrossed. I thought I could finish it before Jacki arrived, but I wasn't done before we picked her up at the airport yesterday. I was finishing it last night in my study room when Jacki walked in and asked me what I was reading. Of course, I became flustered and "fessed up". While Jacki seemed rather amused (I think she is used to my idiosyncrasies), Caitlin (who tends to see things in black and white) was appalled. Anyway-I really liked the book and I hope that Jacki does, too.
Sorry about my "sneak preview" Jacki, but I hope we can discuss it when you finish.
Has anyone else ever read a gift book they bought before they gave it to the recipient?

Nah, I haven't. But then again, I've never gifted a book, so I guess I shouldn't be answering your question =) I do think it's funny though. You would've read it sooner or later so why not, eh?

I can't wait to find out what book this is that is just impossible to wrap before reading! :)

Wow, I find that hard to imagine, Heidi-books are one of my favorite gifts to give/receive-but then I've always been a voracious reader.
Jacki, I suppose I could give you the book early, since the "cat is out of the bag", so to speak. I still haven't wrapped it yet, so just let me know if you really can't wait ;)

I wish I could say I'm a voracious reader, but that I am not. I use the excuse of being in school and not reading any more than I have to, but an excuse is just that, an excuse. It's always that I can find something "better" to do with my time and almost feel guilty for sitting still or something. I must say that when I do read I love it. I'm trying to get back in the swing of picking up a book. I'm reading one right now and have 1 in waiting, and a couple that I'm interested in getting. I think Jacki's latest read will be added to my list of prospective books..it sounds like a good book.

I just have to ask...have any of you ever read "Clan of the Cave Bearer" and the rest of Jean Auel's sagas? They are the very best books I have ever read. The author does so much research that it takes her years to get a book out, therefore, one must wait and wait. But they are definately worth it.

Aunt Jan,

I've never heard of Jean Auel's books. I'll have to add them to my ever-growing "to-read" list! Thanks for the recommendation.

Jan, I think I have heard you mention the books before, but I have not read them. It sounds as if I will have to read them, too. I just went online and reserved a copy at the library here...thanks for the suggestion! There are so many books to choose from, that it is good to get a positive recommendation before investing a lot of time in a series. How many books are there in the series?

There are 5 books in the series. First is "The Clan of the Cave Bear", then "The Valley of Horses", "The Mammouth Hunters", "The Plains of Passage" and finally "The Shelters of Stone." I have the last one so I will bring it up with me on Sunday ( that is if we don't get snowed in!) Andrea finally read the first one a couple years ago and was immediately hooked. She has since read them all. I can't tell you enough how much I loved these books. It took about 50 pages on the first one to really get into, then it was difficult to put down after that.

I was impressed with this story until I found out the book was "Green Eggs and Ham" and it took you a week to finish it. Come on Dr. Roth, you can do better than that. You should be able to polish off "Green Eggs and Ham," and "Goodnight Moon" in a week!

All the best,

Dan May

Haha, Dan- it was "I wish that I had duck feet", a WAY longer book that certainly merits at least a full week to read :)
